Web host HostMySite.com (http://www.hostmysite.com) has gained SAS 70 Type II certification, it was reported yesterday. Based in Newark, Delaware, USA, the company engaged the services of auditing firm Clifton Gunderson, LLP to prepare for the audit, which covered the company’s internal control environment and involved onsite audit reviews and testing alongside “detailed meetings” with the HostMySite management.

SAS 70 was developed by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and ensures the “control objectives” (policies and procedures) and related activities of service companies are “valid and enforced” and followed.

There are two types of SAS 70 auditor reports. Type I audits the validity of the controls in operation at a service organization to “ensure they complete the specified control objectives”. Type II audits consider controls and how they are executed over a specific period of time.
